Dr Phil is an American T.V. show owned by Oprah Winfrey Network. It is the no.1 rated talk show, a creation of Phil McGraw and Oprah Winfrey and a production of Peteski Productions. Is Dr Phil a Doctor?
Dr Phil, who’s known as Phil McGraw is not a real doctor though he plays “a doctor on T.V.” He, however, holds a doctorate in clinical psychology, but he is not a licensed psychologist. Born in 1950, he helped Oprah Winfrey with a lawsuit in 1998 and became regular on Oprah’s talk show.
He then launched his successful series Dr Phil and has written several best selling self-help books. Some of his books include self matters: creating your life from the inside out, life code, life strategies: doing what works doing what matters, the ultimate weight solution, the 20/20 diet, love smart, family first and many others.
He graduated from Midwestern State University with a B.A. and went ahead to earn an M.A., in experimental psychology in 1976. He graduated from the University of North Texas in 1979 with a PhD in clinical psychology. So, no he is not a medical doctor or a licensed therapist and hasn’t been licensed for a long time.
McGraw is a self-help guru, entrepreneur, author and self-styled mental health expert. He has a knack for addressing awkward and unsettling topics from crime to mental illness. He is also a paid spokesman, an entertainer who’s thrived in the field of pop-psychology.
